The Clinical Application Specialist (CAS) – PSG is responsible for supporting sleep diagnostics services through the accurate setup, monitoring, and analysis of polysomnography (PSG) and home sleep tests (HST).
This role ensures high-quality sleep studies, supports clinicians in diagnosing sleep disorders, and enhances patient experience across the diagnostic journey. The CAS works closely with sleep physicians, hospitals, and sleep labs to deliver reliable data and maintain clinical standards in line with Malaysia’s healthcare requirements.
The ideal candidate is clinically trained, detail-oriented, and experienced in sleep studies, with a strong commitment to patient care and diagnostic accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sleep Study Operations (PSG & HST)
Perform and manage in-lab polysomnography (PSG) studies, including patient preparation, electrode/sensor application, and system calibration.
Support Home Sleep Test (HST) setup, patient instruction, and device return checks.
Monitor sleep studies (overnight PSG where applicable) to ensure data quality and patient safety.
Troubleshoot technical issues during recording and ensure minimal data loss.
Score and analyse sleep studies based on recognised guidelines (e.g., AASM).
Prepare and compile sleep study reports for physician interpretation.
2. Patient Management & Education
Explain sleep study procedures clearly to patients and caregivers (pre- and post-study).
Ensure patient comfort, compliance, and proper device usage (especially for HST).
Address patient concerns and provide basic education on sleep disorders and next steps.
3. Clinical Collaboration & Account Support
Work closely with sleep physicians, ENT specialists, pulmonologists, and hospital teams.
Support partner hospitals and clinics in setting up and running sleep diagnostic services.
Coordinate with internal teams (operations, customer service, sales) on scheduling, logistics, and patient flow.
Provide clinical feedback and insights to improve service delivery and workflow.
4. Training & Education
Conduct product and clinical training for healthcare professionals on PSG/HST devices and workflows.
Support workshops, CMEs, and sleep awareness programmes in collaboration with medical partners.
Stay updated on advancements in sleep diagnostics, equipment, and clinical practices.
5. Quality, Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all procedures comply with local regulatory and healthcare standards (e.g., Ministry of Health Malaysia guidelines, PDPA).
Maintain accurate patient records, sleep study data, and documentation for audit purposes.
Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and calibration of PSG/HST equipment.
Qualifications
Diploma / Degree in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Biomedical Science, or related healthcare field.
2–5 years of experience in sleep diagnostics, PSG, respiratory care, or clinical setting.
Hands-on experience in PSG setup and/or scoring is preferred.
Familiarity with PSG/HST systems is an advantage.
Basic understanding of sleep disorders (e.g., OSA) and diagnostic pathways.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle physiological data.
Good communication and patient management skills.
Willingness to travel locally and support overnight PSG studies when required.
RPSGT/SDS/CPSGT certification preferred; candidates without certification but with relevant PSG experience are encouraged to apply.
