Roles & Responsibilities

Job Description & Principle Duties:

Assumes overall responsibility for the quality of service provided by the designated Laboratory Specialty, Division or Section.

Complies with the Joint Commission International (JCI), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Health Care Institutions (CBAHI), ISO 15189, National Guard Laboratory & Hospital Standards are maintained and continuously improved.

Introduce new tests as per the needs of the current disease status in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on recent literature and evidence-based medicine. Tests should include the recent technology discovered in updated literature and ensure safety and relevance of these tests to patient care, management.

Oversees and actively participates in training programs for staff, medical technology students, interns, residents and participates in continuing education for staff physicians.

Serves on Hospital and Departmental committees as assigned.

Ensures medical coverage is available at all times.

Oversees and actively participates in the quality improvement process of daily routine work.

Update reporting format of all specimens according to most recent disease classifications and most recent needed data to ensure patient care is delivered up to the highest standard compared to western countries.

Cooperate with other department sections providing service to Hematopathology to update and advance their tests as per recent discoveries in science and technology to ensure completeness of reporting of Hematopathology related specimens.

Encourages, cooperates and participates in approved research activities.

Desired Candidate Profile

The educational requirements include a basic medical degree recognized by the Saudi Medical Council (e.g. MBBS) and postgraduate qualification/board certified.

Medical Degree: MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) from a recognized medical school.

Postgraduate Degree (Pathology): MD (Doctor of Medicine) or DNB (Diplomate of National Board) in Pathology.

Super-specialization/Fellowship: A DM (Doctorate of Medicine) in Hematopathology, or a specialized fellowship in Hematopathology (e.g., FRCPath, American Board of Pathology, or equivalent) is required to function at a consultant level.

3. Western Qualification (Highly Preferred) & Work Experience;

Education: Must be a graduate of a recognized medical school and having Board Certification in Pathology or equivalent from Western countries including North American qualifications such as (American Board; Canadian Board etc), CCS/CCST, Australian, Diplome dEtudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board, Facharzt with minimum 3 years experience post Board/ Fellowship.with appropriate licensure to practice.

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited medical school, completed appropriate internship and residency requirements in hematological pathology. Holds current certification by the American Board in hematological pathology or agreed equivalent with appropriate licensure to practice.

Work Experience:

Should have at least 2-3 years experience in a CAP accredited Laboratory after Board Certification. This may include subspecialty training.
