Roles & Responsibilities

Basic Functions

Provides overall supervision and leadership for nurses in the Paediatric Ward.

Directs, organizes, and coordinates the overall nursing operations within the unit.

Delivers high-quality professional nursing care using the Nursing Process, with a strong emphasis on direct patient care and related activities.

Provides expert nursing care to paediatric patients, ensuring adherence to best practices in paediatric healthcare.

Manages and oversees nursing activities within the Paediatric Ward, maintaining a safe, child-friendly, and efficient environment.

Ensures nursing staff are proficient in handling paediatric-specific medical equipment, administering medications safely, and performing essential life-support procedures.

Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

Identifies and addresses clinical and administrative challenges, making informed decisions based on clinical expertise and managerial knowledge. Works scheduled shifts with flexibility for on-call duties to meet urgent patient care and operational needs.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES The Head Nurse of the Pediatric Ward performs all duties of a Registered Nurse, Senior Registered Nurse, and Charge Nurse, in addition to the following responsibilities: Patient Care & Service Excellence Oversee and ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within the Pediatric ward. Monitor patient satisfaction metrics and implement measures to enhance service quality (feedbacks, NPS score) Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, guidelines, and infection control practices. Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to address patient concerns and optimize care delivery. Perform patient rounds along with primary physician. Team Management Supervise, guide, and support the nursing staff to maintain a cohesive and productive team. Conduct regular training and mentoring to enhance staff skills and professional development. Manage staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of manpower. Act as a liaison between the nursing team and higher management to address challenges and relay updates. Conducts monthly staff meetings Ensures staff participation in mandatory in-service programs, with attendance documented in employee records. Ensures new staff receive thorough orientation before assuming patient care responsibilities. Assigns a preceptor for new employees to facilitate effective onboarding. Meets regularly with orientees to monitor their progress, maintaining written records, including the Nursing Orientation Manual.
