About the job

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is one of the largest and most respected paediatric healthcare centres in the world. As innovators in child health, we lead and partner to improve the health of children through the integration of healthcare, leading-edge research and education. Our reputation would not have been built - nor could it be maintained - without the skills, knowledge and experience of the extraordinary people who come to work here every day. SickKids is committed to ongoing learning and development, and features a caring and supportive work environment that combines exceptionally high standards of practice.

When you join SickKids, you become part of our community. We share a commitment and determination to fulfill our vision of Healthier Children. A Better World.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to work alongside the world's best in paediatric healthcare.

We are looking for eager Registered Nurses (RN) to join an innovative job-share program in which the RN's full-time equivalent (FTE) will be shared between unit 8A/6E (Inpatient Haematology/Oncology) and 8B (Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program). In this role, you will assess complex nursing needs and provide well-rounded care to support children and families as they experience acute and chronic illnesses. Nurses at SickKids are leaders who influence and deliver the best in family-centred care. Our nurses recognize and respect the diversity of the community we serve and the uniqueness of each child and family. Through partnerships and collaboration, our nurses strive to promote and restore optimal health and assist children and families to effectively adjust to health challenges.

The aim of the job-share program is to develop and maintain nursing competency throughout the division of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy. This program recognizes specialized nursing expertise and creates opportunities for nursing staff to gain new skills and experience while promoting balance and resiliency both at a personal level and program wide. Working within these rapidly evolving clinical specialties provides an opportunity for nurses to develop acute clinical skills and a strong foundation of knowledge in pediatrics. You will have the opportunity to care for children and adolescents throughout many phases of treatment including initial diagnosis, acute management, innovate treatments and clinical trials, and palliative care.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

Nurses on 8A/6E and 8B will learn and develop a valued skillset foundational to practice in acute care clinical settings:

Administration of blood products, oxygen therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition

Management of care across the phases of the illness continuum, including palliative and end-of-life care

Navigation of complex psychosocial dynamics and care challenges related to life-threatening illness and its treatment

Involvement in new and innovative therapies and clinical trials

Recognition and management of oncologic emergencies

Administration of Hematopoietic Stem Cell and Cellular Therapy products including but not limited to bone marrow, CORD transplants and CAR T cells and recognition of adverse reactions during infusion
