About the Role | About the Role

Southern Cross New Plymouth Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Peri-anaesthesia team (Admission, PACU, Day Stay) in a 0.9 FTE, fixed‑term role for 12 months, covering maternity leave. Working 9 days per fortnight, this role offers flexibility to support individual circumstances. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality peri-anaesthesia nursing care across the full surgical journey, working in partnership with patients, whānau, and the wider clinical team to ensure safe and positive outcomes.

The role sits within a close‑knit, multidisciplinary team where you will contribute across perioperative services based on your skills and experience. Your daily responsibilities will include pre‑operative patient assessment and preparation, post‑anaesthetic recovery care, ongoing clinical monitoring, discharge coordination, and timely, accurate documentation. You will bring a patient‑focused approach and uphold high standards of clinical practice within a busy private surgical environment.

Reporting to the Peri‑Anaesthesia Services Manager, this position is well suited to a nurse who can hit the ground running and is confident in a fast‑moving perioperative setting. Alongside delivering culturally safe care, you will play a role in quality improvement activities and support the development of staff and new team members, contributing to a professional, collaborative team culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
