Killara Rehabilitation is Rehabilitation ward which utilises a multi-disciplinary approach with the aim of assisting patients to regain their pre-morbid level of mobility, self-care and independence. We provide care to patients recovering from stroke, orthopaedic surgery, general deconditioning post-surgery or long illness and those with aging issues and concerns with managing at home. The patients have access to a large gymnasium for group sessions and their own personalised exercise regime. We also have 4 independent living units where patients can practice self-care activities in the bathroom and kitchen. Nursing and medical staff join with the allied health staff from physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, social work, speech pathology and dieticians in order to ensure holistic care is provided to the patients.

Selection Criteria

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.

Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.

Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients/clients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.

Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of risk management, safety and quality principles and the role of the Registered Nurse in applying these principles.

Demonstrated recent extensive post registration experience in an acute care setting.
