Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Sister (Band 6) to join our Division A Theatres team within the SDU at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This role could be offered as a secondment or substantive position.

In this role, you will support the Senior Sister in the day-to-day management of the ward/unit over a 24-hour period, ensuring high standards of patient care are consistently delivered. You’ll play a key role in leading and supporting the nursing team, acting as a clinical role model and promoting safe, effective and compassionate care.

You’ll work closely with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, multidisciplinary teams, patients and their families, helping to ensure a high-quality patient experience and smooth operational management of the unit.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership, clinical expertise and management skills while contributing to continuous improvement within the service and delivering outstanding care for patients.

Responsibilities

In this role you will support the Senior Sister in the operational and clinical leadership of the ward/unit, ensuring safe, effective and high-quality patient care.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

Supporting the Senior Sister in the management of the ward/unit, ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained across a 24-hour service.

Acting as a clinical role model, providing leadership, supervision and support to nursing and support staff.

Planning, implementing and evaluating patient care, ensuring clear communication with the multidisciplinary team and patients’ families.

Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety and infection prevention, ensuring Trust policies and professional standards are followed.

Supporting staff development by acting as a mentor for new staff, learners and students, helping to create a positive learning environment.

Assisting with ward management responsibilities, including rota coordination, incident management, recruitment and participation in staff appraisal processes.

Acting up for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse when required and contributing to the coordination of ward activities.
